SECOND GRADE

1

Faith

Our Faith is meant to be lived out in our homes, in school, and in our community. Our Religion curriculum involves the whole child: mind, body, and soul as well as preparing students to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.

2

Academics

Our goals in second grade are to educate children to be well rounded in basic skills and beyond, to become lifelong learners and problem solvers, to use technology as a learning tool, and to be children of faith.

3

Technology

Through technology, students are empowered to independently document and capture what they are learning at school with photos and videos of their work, or by adding digital creations.

Welcome to Second Grade!

Second grade is a year of highly visible progress in reading, language arts, social studies, and science as well as a year of exploration and discovery of numbers in the world around us.

Second grade is a year of transitions and curriculum milestones. It’s a year in which learning becomes more nuanced and students are expected to be more independent. In language arts, students spend less time learning to read and more time reading to learn. In math, students master concepts in number sense, geometry, money, measurement, time and data.  In social studies classes, lessons will bring current events into discussions and will emphasize maps as well as diversity among cultures. The Second grade science curriculum will include investigations in Earth, Physical and Life Sciences.
