After School Art

Mrs. Glennon, our school art teacher leads this hands-on program. The group of students work on a year-long project to beautify the school grounds. Students take an active role in choosing a project and work together to complete the artwork.

Young Scientists

The Young Scientist Program extends our already dynamic science curriculum. Students in Kindergarten through sixth grade are offered an opportunity to join in any of the 5-week programs. Topics have included Bubble Magic, Kitchen Chemistry, Electricity Magic, Space Scientists, and many more. Each session will engage, excite and stimulate a love for science!

Altar Servers

Pope John Paul II once said, “Your commitments to the altar is not only a duty, but a great honor, a genuine holy service.” The role of altar server is open to students in grades 5-8. It is a role with much responsibility and is to be taken very seriously.

Ambassador Leadership Team

The Ambassador Leadership Team was established to foster positive leaders at St. Michael School. We have a vision philosophy stating how we are going to help students become good role models for the entire community.

Student Council

The mission of the St. Michael Student Council is to live as spiritual examples, ministering to their fellow students, representing the perspectives and concerns of the student body, and providing a variety of events, activities, programs, outreaches, and services to brighten, inspire, and rally the St. Michael community.

Band

The school band is comprised of students in fourth through eighth grade. The students are conducted by Mr. Glenn Pawlak. Students take lessons once a week during school days, as well as additional classes after school. The students lead our school in our fight song during pep rallies as well as a Christmas and end of year concerts.

Children's Choir

Students in the school choir learn and practice a variety of hymns that are used throughout the school year at our grade level Masses, All-School Masses, and Holy Days of Obligation. They’re voices make every celebration special!

Cub Scouts

Cub Scouts is for boys in 1st thru 5th grade. Cub Scouts provides a safe and comfortable environment where the boys have fun, make friends, develop character, learn and grow. Much of the fun happens right in the Den meetings (including just your son’s grade) and Pack meetings (including all cub scouts 1st – 5th grade and their families).  Fore more information, visit  http://smscubscouts.weebly.com/

Girl Scouts

The Daisies are a parent-lead group that meets regularly after school. A Daisy will gain new friends while they earn petals for their accomplishments in completing service projects, exploring nature and completing craft projects.

Drama Club

St. Michael School’s Drama Club gives 5th-8th grade students the opportunity to discover the performing arts, visual arts, music, and dance by participating in the cast or crew of the spring play. The play is planned by parent volunteers interested in helping and provides students with more exposure to the arts.

Mock Trial

Students have the amazing opportunity to prepare, plan, and present a court case in a real Cook County Courtroom. A team of lawyers and a judge participate in their case to make the experience as realistic as possible.

Video Club

Our Video Club is comprised of eighth-grade students who complete an audio/video course led by two volunteer parents who work in local broadcasting. They write, film, and anchor weekly newscasts for the school every Friday and create the Eighth Grade memory video each year.

Yearbook

Students in the Year Book Club are led by Mrs. Hnilo, our Computer Science Teacher. They spend much of the year documenting all the aspects of student life here at St. Michael. They compile, plan, and create a wonderful memory for our students at the end of each year.

Robotics FLL

Our FLL Robotics Team is lead by our Mrs. Ramig, our Jr. High Science teacher and several volunteer parents. The students work together to compete against other teams in creating, programing, and executing various tasks using moveable Lego machines.

Academic Team

Our team is comprised of high achieving seventh and eighth grade students who compete in our area high school academic competitions. GO WILDCATS!

Code Club

Code Club is an extension of the SMS STEM education program. Students, in grade 4-8, work with computer coding and familiarize themselves with technology used in gaming systems known by the students. Student meet in our TRAC lab.

Child Lectors

Child Lectors, opened to students in grades 3-8, provides the opportunity for students to speak the Good News during school masses and during Children’s liturgy during the 9 AM and 10:30 AM masses on Sundays.

Chess Scholars

Our students attend weekly classes provided by Chess Scholars after school in our building. Students learn new skills, and compete with their classmates in the fun game of chess!
